How to reallocate money and negotiate with your wedding vendors to make the most out of COVID-19 cancellations
The marriage of COVID-19 and weddings (pun intended) has been through a rough patch this year. We have been party planning for 20 years and NEVER have we been dealt with this!! Since then we have all been scrambling to make things work for ALL persons and companies involved.
Most vendors are a small business with heart and we want to make sure we can still make it work for both parties. You have different conversations with different vendors, however, the trick here is to reallocate, reallocate, reallocate!
Photographers:
Know that your non-refundable deposit can be reworked to hours you can use at another time. For instance, reallocate the hours to a photoshoot for a Christmas card or for your 30th birthday party.
Band:
Use the same tactic of moving the money over to another party/event. Discuss with your band if you can use their music in some way to accommodate another party at your wedding weekend, say your rehearsal dinner. Or perhaps another special party in your future. The deposit may not pay for the full band, but work out a deal for a couple of instruments in the band for a couple of hours.
Florist:
Talk to your florist and strike a deal to use your non-refundable deposit for smaller floral centerpieces throughout the year - Thanksgiving, Christmas, and your birthday. How wonderful to receive a beautiful gift 2-3 times this coming year!
