Do your homework: Start casually by looking at rings in fashion and wedding magazines and online. It’s nice to see what rings each of you gravitates towards.
Hydrate and eat protein before you shop. When your heart is racing, you’re burning more fuel. You want to be alert and clear-headed when you both head out.
Realize that, like all things, you can change your mind about your actual ring (later down the road). Go into this lighthearted and have fun. It’s a serious purchase but don’t overthink.
Along with this same sentiment, choose a ring that can accompany an “add on”. Perhaps a stackable ring or a ring where stones can be added.
Let the ring pick you. You’ll know what I mean when it happens. (The same is true for your wedding dress.) Have a fresh and open mind and try on a lot. It’s fun to experiment and ultimately helps you make a choice. Your ring will speak to you so pay attention.
Do not leave the house without a nice rounded meal and plenty of water. Dehydration and hunger will steal mental sharpness and you’ll have less joy, too.
When doing your homework ahead of time, don’t get stuck on a style or color. Keep an open mind because, in person, you’ll feel how each ring/style/color affects you.
Don’t overthink. Just have fun. This is a process of determining what each of you likes and then meeting somewhere in the middle...perhaps more on her side! Remember that just like a starter home, there’s a good chance this ring will be modified, added to or replaced with time.
